Been born in 1956, sons of a violin professor and brother of a jazz' pianiste, Didier Lockwood inherited the one the passion of the instrument and other the love of the improvisation.
To sixteen years, he obtains the first price of the music Conservatoire of Wedged. He does its beginnings in the years 1970 within the group Magma, alongside the percussionniste Christian Vander. It plays uniformly in several formations, in solo, trio to ropes or quartet and with Uzeb, Gordon Beck, Martial Solal.
Decorated of three stars in the Down Beat, the world-wide bible of the jazz, crowned by the first Victories of the Music, he is so comfortable in the universe of the jazz as in the one of the classical music.
In June 1996, he creates to Lille his first concerto The Mouettes for electroacoustic violin and symphonic orchestra, with the national orchestra of Lille, under the direction of John claude Casadesus.
1998, he gives a series together and of master classify in Australia, in the framework of the Festival of Perth.
In 1999, to the national opera of Paris, an opera jazz on a booklet of Georges Perec, Newspaper of an User of the space II, presented by Charlotte Nessi;
in 2000, Remember Future, work interpreted by And a big band of twenty musicians; Didier Lockwood receives the price of the SACEM for his educational work Ropes and souls. His discography understands many albums, of which Didier Lockwood New York Appointments, with Dave Holland, Peter Erskine, Mike Stern, Gil Goldstein, Dave Liebman and David Kikoski, Storyboard, with Dreyfus Jazz, Round about silence, recorded in quartet.
Also in 2000, his disc Tribute to Stéphane Grappelli receives many distinctions: Tuner of now, Shock Jazzman, Selection FIP.
2001, to the winter Circus, the spectacle Omkara, musical encounter between the jazz and the music indian, with the dancer Raghunath Manet and the percussionniste Sri Murugan. The trio that he formed with Romane and marc-michel Le Bévillon plays in France, to the Quebec, to the United States, in Czech Republic and to the Portugal.
At this time, the Center of the Musics Didier Lockwood opens its harbors to Dammarie-les-Lys (Seine and Marne). This school, unique in Europe, has for goal to allow the professional musicians of the entire world to perfect itself in the art of the improvisation.
in 2003, he composed for MK2 the music of a long animated measurement, The Children of Rain. At this time, he records a disc with a new quartet with Universal.
